ALARM

Despite being a well-written novel, Dele Weds Destiny reads more like a prologue or the pilot episode of a television series, introducing a cast and a world that would feature in a longer, more complex story later on. Unfortunately, as a standalone, it’s just not that great.

There were too many story threads left hanging and the main conflict ends abruptly before it's resolution. There is a whole chunk of the story that takes place in the past, but it doesn't really affect the present so it feels pointless.

That being said, Tomi obaro is an excellent writer.

Overall, ⭐⭐⭐/ 5 stars.

If you like character-driven stories, it's a decent-enough read.

🗣It was such a treat to read about Lagos at he center of an alien invasion. And it was very clever to integrate local lore into what would have been a classic first-contact story.

It's a story that would be incredible as a movie but just didn't work well in this book. The uncountable characters and myriad of POV made it a chore to read. There were too many story threads that it all falls apart completely.

😐😐 Not sure how I should describe this.

I want to say dissappointing but that's not exactly right. The first two-thirds of it is really good.

It's fast paced with short, snappy chapters and intriguing characters, and Oyinkan Braithewaite's writing is excellent.

But there was so much that this book could have been that it wasn't.

There was no character development whatsoever. And that was a huge let down.

It wasn't the thriller I was expecting, nor was it the deep exploration of family dynamics that I later thought it would be. It was little more than a short funny story with some serial killer elements.

In the end it was a pretty shallow book.

💥💥💥 3.5 stars.
It not life changing or anything but it's fun to read.
